7 Reasons why you should adopt rather than buy a pet

Like any other humans, my Human loves to buy her favorite things, from shoes, clothes to gadgets – and more. However, when it comes to owning a pet, Human is a firm believer that one should only adopt rather than buy a pet.

Not only are there a lot of cats and dogs – from different ages, shapes and breads – at your local shelters who are waiting and longing for their loving forever home but there are also another 7 reasons why you, humans should adopt rather than buy.

1. You will save a life

It sounds a little bit cliche but the so called “high-kill” shelters do really exist. Not only would the old and the aggressive but also the sick animals be euthanized to make room for the new, the healthy and the younger ones. It is indeed a hard reality for a lot of animals. That’s why it is very important to save their lives by adopting them.

Being checked up by my vet right after my second vaccination. SWEET!

2. You will save a lot of money

Pets need not only a loving forever home, food, litter box, toys, and so on but also – the most importantly – vaccinations, check ups, deworming, microchipping and the cost of spay/neuter. When you adopt a pet from your local shelter, they are already covered. So, you’ll still have to pay an adoption fee depending on what kind of pet you’re adopting, but you don’t have to pay for those high (health) costs anymore. Saving!!!

3. You will never be unpleasantly surprised

All animals at shelters are vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, neutered/spayed and checked up by their in-house vets. Even when a animal is suffering from an illness, the shelters are obligated to inform you all about it and let you make a decision whether you want to go ahead or not, so you will never be unpleasantly surprised by a newly adopted pet with an illness that you didn’t know of.

I was showing off my bench at my foster family to my Human who came to check me out and fell in love with me within 2 seconds!

4. You will get a well socialized pet

Most of animals that are ended up at shelters are given up due to a move, a divorce or death of their previous owners. One thing for sure that they already know how to socialize with humans. Kittens are usually placed at foster families, where they learn to socialize with both humans and resident pets. My foster family thought me how to socialize and how to act as a kitten. A few weeks later, my Human came and brought me to her house, which has now become my loving forever home.

5. You will get what you want

Do you want a cat, a kitten, a dog or a puppy? Do you want an in- or outdoor pet? Do you want a pet who can get along very well with your small children and/or resident pets? Do you want a super active or mellow pet? At a shelter you’ll be correctly informed and will be able to choose a pet that you have always been dreaming of.

It’s me aged almost 3 months a few days after I arrived at my loving forever home.

6. You will get the cutest pet in the whole world

Designer cats or dogs are rarely ended up at shelters but shelter animals are just as cute – and not to mention – as smart looking as those expensive ones. In fact, most of my Human’s friends and relatives thought that I was an expensive cat due to my size, my fluffiness, my semi-longhaired and my ability to use the toilet. But I was just a stray kitten until someone brought me to the local animal shelter and now, I am a big boy with expensive cattitudes and still the cutest cat in my Human’s world.

7. You will be happier than ever before and brag about it

Google this,”benefits of owning a pets” then you’ll get endless information about the benefits of owning a pet. It is one of the basic natures of life that when you love your pets, they will love you back, unconditionally. This kind of love will make you so much happier and nowadays, you can brag all about it on social media. What are you waiting for? Go to your local shelter and pick up your very won pet! πŸ™‚
